AKA things I do everyday, mainly during nap/quiet rest time if I can swing it where all 3 kiddos are doing so at the same time! And let’s face it, everyone has been home a crazy amount this past year with the pandemic.

- Play classical music
Ok Google, stop playing Frozen for like 30 minutes (mom’s brain is literally going to go…”INTO THE UNKNOOOOOWWWN!!!!!”) My current favorite is searching Spotify for “piano covers of pop songs”. I like that I know the melodies but the piano is very soothing and peaceful. Plus I just personally love piano music!
- Light a candle
This is such a new thing for me in the last year or so. Aromatherapy is definitely a thing and a good candle can really bring some calming vibes. I also tend to turn off all my overhead lights so a candle’s flicker adds some soothing ambiance. Favorite candles are the Capri Blue Volcano or Target’s “Island Moonight” is a GREAT knockoff smelling very similar at about 1/3 the price. TJ Maxx/Marshalls is also a great place to find affordable candles!
- Drink a coffee
No brainer here for me, but having a “me” drink (when it’s actually hot) is a nice little bonus and a break from handing out waters, cleaning up milks, leaving coffees in the microwave and forgetting about them till the next day (guilty).
- Tidy up
This is probably a personal preference, but I have a hard time relaxing/decompressing in a messy space (it’s just calling to me to clean it up). Simply spending 5-10 minutes putting toys away or clearing the counters in peace is therapeutic and the clean(er) space brings me more joy than anxiety!
What are your simple go-to things that you try to do in between the chaos of parenting to help you relax?! In this season of life, a trip to the spa or a meal out with a girlfriend are few and far between luxuries, so let’s make a goal to make a few small changes to fill our mama cups.
